Kentucky Woman - Neil Diamond
I spent the weekend in Louisville with my two best friends, Janna and Jenna. We ate, we drank, we toured the Maker’s Mark Distillery, and drank some more. By the time we were ready to go home, I felt like Neil Diamond was singing about us.

Roll out the pierogi
My mother is German, but still makes a mean pierogi.
I spent part of my day taking instruction from a bossy Polish woman. This is unusual because I am usually that bossy Polish woman. A few weeks back, my mother asked if I would like to volunteer with her to make pierogi for her church’s annual parish festival.
When I arrived at the church, the pierogi production line was in full swing....

Kathy vs. The Pasta Machine

It was about the size of a cinderblock. And just as heavy.
All shiny and intimidating, I hauled the pasta making machine into my kitchen. I borrowed it from my best friend, Janna. It had belonged to her grandmother, and she had lugged the gadget from Michigan to Philadelphia to New Jersey and now, back — without ever using it.
I can see why.
